When most people think of massages, a Swedish massage is what comes to their mind. Swedish massages are the most common type of massages used today and they are a perfect fit for beginners and those who feel overly worked or stressed out.
The main goal of a Swedish massage is to relax the entire body and this is done by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. How it works is your therapist will lubricate your skin with massage oil and perform various massage strokes, including the basic techniques for a traditional Swedish massage: effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement and vibration/nerve strokes. These movements warm up the muscle tissue, releasing tension by gradually breaking up muscle “knots” or adhered tissues, called adhesions.
Swedish massages are the most popular type of massage because of the numerous benefits they provide. By getting a Swedish massage just one time it will help to calm your nervous system and promote a sense of relaxation. They will also help those who deal with muscle cramps and spasms. Furthermore, they help reduce anxiety and tension in the body, which helps relieve depression.
Beyond just relaxation, Swedish massages can increase the level of oxygen in the blood, improve blood circulation and decrease muscle toxins. In addition, they stimulate the lymphatic system, which carries the body’s waste products, which will allow you to process the good and bad a lot quicker. In order to get the most out of your Swedish massage, communication with your therapist is vital.
Deep Tissue massages are recommended for those individuals who deal with chronic aches and pain in areas such as the neck and back. The focus of this massage is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer that surrounds the muscles, bones and joints).
At the beginning of this massage, lighter pressure is generally applied to warm up and prepare the muscles. Specific techniques are then used such as: Stripping and Friction. The techniques used in this massage are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle “knots” that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion and inflammation. After your Deep Tissue massage is complete, it’s common to experience some stiffness or soreness, but it should go away within a day or so. If not, contact your therapist.
One of the main reasons why individuals get a Deep Tissue massage is for the benefits they provide for those dealing with chronic back or neck pain. Aside from the treatment of pain, Deep Tissue massages help to lower high blood pressure and reduce arthritis symptoms. Furthermore, they can also reduce stress, anxiety and muscle tension. Studies found that massage therapy like the Deep Tissue can even help to boost production of the hormone oxytocin, which relaxes the body. Many athletes receive Deep Tissue massages to help improve their athletic performance and recovery time.
A massage technique that uses suction cups to lift the skin and underlying tissues, helping to reduce pain, tension and adhesion’s due to tight and contracted muscles. This treatment focuses on 2-3 targeted areas of concern and is perfect for those with active/athletic lifestyles or those seeking deeper tissue relief of specific areas.
